JUN 8 Harry’s x Vivid Sydney: Midnight Swim w/ Frank Booker (NZ)
Mightnight Swim is a Sydney-based independent record label, booking/management agency, record store and radio show run by Tom Studdy and Mike Who. We have a global outlook and dedication to pushing soulful sounds from across the world free from the restrictions of specific genres, tempos or styles.
For their take over at Harry’s they’ve enlisted the talents of two men from New Zealand and an all girl disco-duo from Surry Hills; they’ll join Tom Studdy on the night!
Headling the night is the first of their guests from across the pond, Frank Booker. A true talent, he’s quietly built a worldwide reputation for incredible edits and amazing DJ sets. His work for labels like Wonderful Noise, Sleazy Beats and Disco Deviance sells out on vinyl instantly, and he has recently launched his own vinyl only imprint, Down In The Basement. First signed to boutique London record label, Untracked Recordings in 2009, the Auckland based DJ and producer released the Brothers EP followed by the Get On EP. Booker followed this in 2011 with the release of a pair of records for Japanese imprint Wonderful Noise: ‘El Salvador’ and ‘Tell Them’ (with remixes from Mark E, Kez YM & Cosmic Boogie), both becoming instant bestsellers and bombs for discerning dancefloors worldwide.
Booker was also the co-host of the highly acclaimed ‘Hit It & Quit It’ radio show alongside the legendary Recloose. Hosted every Monday night on George FM (Auckland, New Zealand) for five years, and consistently leading in ratings for the station, the show became one of the stations most popular and featured many guests such as J Rocc, Jazzy Jay, Nathan Haines and many more. As a DJ, Booker has played alongside the likes of Moodymann, Francois K, Tiger & Woods, Bill Brewster, Dam Funk, Kon, DJ Day, Trus’me, Kid Sublime, Rich Medina, Max Graef and many more.
Mick Cantaloop will join in the fun too! Hailing from Auckland and based in Sydney, Mick promotes ‘eclectic jams and worldwide vibes’ with his Cantaloop party series, showcasing a range of talent across both sides of the Tasman. An adventurous DJ in his own right, with a versatile style and diverse selections spanning disco and boogie to afro, broken beat and all shades of the house music spectrum. Having spent formative years living in Brazil, Mick has developed a discerning ear for funk laden dance-floor cuts, a penchant for percussive polyrhythms and a record collection unrestrained by genre. In Australia and New Zealand Mick has previously supported various local and international artists including Frank Booker, Session Victim, Osunlade, T Williams, James Curd, and Steve Spacek.
Sidehustle are one already Harry’s faves after a few rapturous sets! Somewhere between a DJ set and a dance performance the energy these two flex on the decks is infectious – with a mix of boogie, disco, house and soul these two guaranteed to make you dance like your dad at a wedding. These two hi energy girls will round out the night with Midnight Swim’s expert on the decks – Tom Studdy!
